What is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a prescription injectable neuromodulator, very similar to Botox. It is used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines without changing the look of the face. Dysport®, like Botox is made from the Botulinum toxin. The toxin causes temporary muscle paralysis, similar to the symptoms of botulism.
While this might sound worrisome to most, neuromodulator treatments have been used for decades. And with proper use, by an accredited medical professional, Dysport® is highly effective in the treatment of wrinkles & fine lines.
How Does Dysport® Work?
Over time, the muscles along the face will constantly contract and tighten due to our normal facial movements – this will cause wrinkles and facial lines to develop. When Dysport® is injected into these muscles, it will paralyze them temporarily preventing any further contractions. Over time, as the muscles are no longer contracting, the skin will smoothen, and any expression lines will disappear.
Dysport® is most effective for wrinkles along the forehead and between the eyes.
What Does Dysport® improve?
- Frown Lines, and other expression lines.
- Forehead Wrinkles
- Crow’s feet and under-eye depressions
- Lip lines & smile lines around the mouth
- Lines along the neck
How long does Dysport® last?
Results from Dysport® can typically last anywhere from 6 to 12 months, depending on severity of your wrinkles and your skin care habits. Therefore, in order to maintain similar results patients will need to repeat treatments every 4 months to a year.
Considering the affect Dysport® and other neuromodulators can have on your muscle activity and the function of your nerves, it important to wait at least 3-4 months in between treatments in the same area. Also, when patients repeat treatments too often, they will end up with a look that is overly done and “fake” – losing their natural facial expressions
